Description
The trip to the live fire training facility at Alexandria's Fire and Rescue Academy culminated four months of training for the class. All firefighters must complete live fire training prior to obtaining certification through the Department of Fire Programs. The specially constructed building can reach temperatures of 1200 degrees or higher during the evolutions. Wooden pallets and straw bales fuel the fires. Due to the hot weather conditions that settled into the area, the evolutions were conducted at night. A series of heavy thunderstorms interrupted the exercise on three occasions and forced all personnel to seek shelter.
