Description
A new Chevy 3500 chassis equipped with a Reading utility body is destined to replace the 1990 Ford/Knapheide unit that has been serving the FCVFD for 17 years. The total cost for the new vehicle is estimated $80,000 and $90,000. In early January 2008, the contract to install the auxiliary warning equipment and other fire department accessories was awarded to FESCO Emergency Sales of Elkridge, MD. Graphics on the vehicle were applied by Preston Signs in Falls Church. Some features of the finished vehicle include: 6.6L Duramax Diesel engine w/ Allison automatic transmission 5,000 watt Raven generator mounted in the motor compartment 220 amp Penn Tex alternator LED warning light package 4x4 off-road capable 12v fixed scene lighting 3,000 watt Command Light light tower 2 electric cord reels Pace-Edwards utility bed cover chainsaw and trash pump to support inclement weather emergencies Line-X coating in bed, compartment interiors, top of body compartments, and rear bumper The vehicle is being partially funded through a grant from Fireman's Fund Insurance Company, Lighthouse Underwriters, and Early, Cassidy & Schilling.
