Description
This fire took place on Super Bowl Sunday in the mid-afternoon. The North-side Battalion Chief reported the fire when he noticed smoke coming from the eaves of the house. The balloon frame construction of the old residence contributed to catastrophic fire extension from the basement to the upper levels of the home. Several firefighters were trapped in the basement for a short time when fire conditions intensified. Two firefighters escaped via a small basement window and suffered burn injuries. The house was completely destroyed by the fire and later demolished. Truck 106 responded on the first alarm and Engine 106 on the second alarm. The photos below were taken by a Company 6 member approximately 40 minutes into the incident, after interior firefighters were evacuated.
