Description
On Friday, January 16, 2009, members of the Arlington County Fire Department responded to what can only be described as a very familiar address, 2800 S. Taylor Street, the Arlington County Fire Training Academy. Unfortunately, units arrived on scene to fine a working fire in a structure called "the Hut", which is used to house the training academy pumper. The building, the 2002 E-One pumper and most of the building contents were completely destroyed in the blaze. Fire investigators believe a faulty heating unit was to blame. Following the fire, the engine was pulled outside to assist fire investigators. These photos were taken in the days that followed. The event left some firefighters wondering if the 2002 pumper was cursed. In 2002, the unit was involved in a rollover accident responding to an emergency call. That accident required significant refurbishment. In the years that followed, the unit exhibited various electrical problems and eventually was assigned to the training academy in 2006.
