Description
Each year the FCVFD opens its doors to the public on the final day of Fire Prevention Week. The Open House gives citizens an opportunity to tour the fire station, learn about the fire equipment, and gain knowledge on fire prevention. Volunteers, along with members of the ACFD career staff, conducted demonstrations that included fire extinguisher use, structure fire attack, vehicle rescue, aerial ladder operations, and turnout gear donning. Displays of fire and EMS equipment were available for viewing. EMTs conducted blood pressure screenings and demonstrated the skills used during trauma emergencies. Also participating in the Open House were deputies from the Falls Church Sheriff's Office. They assisted parents with child fingerprinting. The Sheriff's Office also provided the use of their traffic control trailer to assist in maintaining an orderly parking lot and traffic flow during the event. Other safety agencies were also invited to participate including: the Falls Church Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), and the National Capital Poison Center. These groups each presented their own exhibits to visitors, demonstrating the services they provide.
