Description
Recruits performed practical exercises simulating removal of a victim from a window onto a ground ladder. The techniques were first performed while the recruits were wearing only personal protective equipment. Once each recruit had demonstrated proficiency in the techniques, the same evolutions were performed in full protective equipment including self-contained breathing apparatus. In addition to removing "civilian" victims, the recruits were taught the proper methods for removing a downed firefighter who is in full protective equipment and breathing apparatus. During the evolutions, three ground ladders were placed to allow additional personnel to be in place for safety purposes. The center ladder was used by the actual rescuer, while the adjoining ladders allowed spotters to stay close and prevent any falls.
