Hechinger Fire

One of the most destructive fires in the history of the City of Falls Church occurred on Memorial Day 1969 following the annual Firemen's Parade. The Hechinger's store was located in the 500 block of South Washington Street on the site where a Saab automobile dealer is now located. The fire completely destroyed the store and the lot remained vacant for a number of years following the fire.
