A rare and valuable opportunity presented itself when a local homeowner graciously allowed the Falls Church VFD access to a property slated for demolition. The home and attached garage were to be demolished to make way for a new residence.
On Sunday, February 3, 2002, senior members of the Falls Church VFD and Arlington VFD conducted training that focused on the use of power saws to perform roof ventilation and wall breaching. During the previous weekend, a wide variety of evolutions were completed at the property with a much larger group of firefighters. This set of exercises was intended to allow experienced members to hone their skills with the Stihl TS400 cutoff saw in a much smaller group setting. Members also tried a variety of saw blades to determine what model worked the best. |
